Circadian Rhythms

Ever since I lost my job in September I’ve had the worst sleep habits ever. I used to work in the mornings and my habits were regular. Now I can’t keep a regular schedule. I really like being awake during the morning hours so I keep trying to rearrange my life so that’s possible, but instead I stay awake longer and longer at night until I’m falling asleep at dawn.

Right now I’m back to waking up early and working the morning hours. I wonder how long it will last. My SO seems to like having me sleep in so that he can use my computer all morning. Today I woke up just after midnight and have been working ever since. It is just after 10 am now. When he wakes up I’ll let him use the computer while I go back to sleep for a couple hours.

I looked for information on circadian rhythm disorders. I don’t think I have one because when I need to wake up, I’ll do it - even if I don’t have enough sleep.

Have you tried Melatonin? Look it up for sleep… it is supposed to be a natural thing to regulate our sleep patterns. I use it sometimes and it seems to help or at least be a nice placebo ;-) Wish you all the best :-) Scott

Since I’ve been unemployed, I’ve had the kids & their school to keep me on schedule… otherwise, I’d be all up all night doing “just one more thing” until dawn.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one with that problem. The night time hours are so quiet and peaceful, I can get a lot more done. During the daytime, the SO keeps making demands on my time and I don’t feel so productive with my web work.

I’m retired (and tired, lol) and I even have sleep problems.

Isn’t it something how something so simple means so much to us, and if we are deprived of it our bodies and brains cannot function the way we would like them too!

I might start myself another sleep journal like I used to have on the old JS. It was quite something to go back and read.

@Skobru - yes, I use Melatonin … many mornings it is the only thing that can help me sleep. Maybe I’m naturally wired.

My Mom is “naturally wired” too. It’s becoming dangerous for her, as she moves too fast and bumps into the table, lamps (knocking them down) and etc. Her Doc said to “slow down” but how??? It can be a huge problem!

I have a wierd sleep schedule too. I also live in the woods, I live in the woods because the 9 to 5 thing is excruciating for me to follow. Adrenal fatigue has a very distinct pattern, you get your best sleep between 7;30 and 9:30 in the morning, are tired all day but perkup in the evening. Thats me! When i work doing salmon spawning surveys, they start at 6 ;30 am I never get used to the schedule and end up completely drained by the seasons end. I contimplate doing murrelette, and owl surveys, which are done 11pm - 4:am
